Will I lose my Google rankings if I migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?

I get most of my sales from organic search and I'm terrified that moving to Shopify will tank my traffic. Is that a real risk, and how do I avoid it?

Answer

It's a real risk only if the migration is done carelessly — done properly, the dip is small and temporary. The single most important thing is a complete 301 redirect map: every old WooCommerce URL must point to its exact Shopify equivalent, so Google (and your existing backlinks) follow the move instead of hitting 404s.

Beyond redirects, preserve your meta titles and descriptions, keep your URL structure as close as possible, re-submit your sitemap in Google Search Console, and don't change your content at the same time as the platform. In our migrations the average organic traffic dip is under 5%, and most stores fully recover within 4–6 weeks once Google re-crawls.

The failure cases we see are always the same: no redirect map, URL structure changed on a whim, or the old site taken down before Google re-indexed the new one. Avoid those three and you'll be fine.
